22 May 2015, FridayAnt Room 20.5*C Heat Mat (15 watt): On Outside weather: Cloudy but warm, I just gave them two freshly killed crickets and two wax worms, all cut up. Total so far in my Dermy-style OFC: 63 PICJust realised; this isn't much of a OFC as I only seem to feed them at weekends. I need to start stepping things up. >.< They are still vary active and their brood chambers continue to be jam-packed with cocoons.

Ant Room 20.5*C Heat Mat (15 watt): On Outside weather: Cloudy but warm,
Took a quick look at this colony. Has to be quick because as soon as I removed the nesting box covering the ants run around like crazy, and I don't like disturbing them or stressing them out too much. Saw loads of callows, and yet there are still loads of cocoons, larvae and eggs in almost every chamber. Didn't see the queen though I am sure she's fit and well.

Ant Room 20.3*C Heat Mat (15 watt): On Outside weather: Clear and sunny.
Same entry as my Lasius umbratus today as I give them the same to make it fair. >.<
Still loads of cocoons present.
Today I went to the store and brought some more crickets, as my pinheads are still too small to feed to my ants, and I brought a tub of Morio worms, which are like giant mealworms. This things are huge; I bet they turn into huge bettles!
Today I gave my ants two morio worms, which makes a total so far in my Dermy-style OFC: 66 PIC

The aim of this quick clip is to give you some idea of the size of my colony and how many ants there are in it. Apologies for the poor quality but the light was fading and so I had to use a torch to try and illuminate the nesting box, and, of course, the ants were not vary happy with me letting all this light in. >.<

Ant Room 24.4*C Heat Mat (15 watt): On Outside weather: Clear and sunny.
Have fed these ants several times over the past week, giving them waxworms, flies, crickets, ant jelly and morio worms. They have been extremely busy; even when I wake up at 5:15 and look across to them I can see they are already up and at it.
Total so far in my Dermy-style OFC: 70 PIC
Tried to capture another video of inside their nest. It’s a bit blurry. Sorry:

Ant Room 22.8*C Heat Mat (15 watt): Off Outside weather: Overcast but warm.
Just fed my ants 2x crickets and 1x wax worm and 1x blob of protein jelly (banana flavour)
I peeked into their nest today and found piles upon piles of cocoons and larvae, with a few callows moving about too. Still hundreds of ants in this nest, and the queen is alive and well.
Total so far in my Dermy-style OFC: 78 PIC

Ant Room 23.1*C Heat Mat (15 watt): Off Outside weather: Sunny and vary warm.
Took a quick peek at this nest today. Hundreds of ants running around in here, with loads out foraging too. I have turned off the heating mat now as it really isn't necessary; their south facing room gets vary warm indeed.
Today I gave my ants two crickets and a blob of ant jelly, which makes a total so far in my Dermy-style OFC: 81 PIC

Ant Room 24.4*C Heat Mat (15 watt): Off Outside weather: Sunny and vary warm.
Today I gave my ants a blob of ant jelly, which makes a total so far in my Dermy-style OFC: 82 PIC
These ants are a lot busier than this clip makes it out to be; there are approximately 100-150 ants in the foraging area, with about three times that amount in the nest. A lot of callows are present too. This clip shows the base of the ramp which rests on a brick in their foraging tank. The ramp leads up to the tube which in turn leads to the nesting box. Anyways, for those of you who find it relaxing watching ants go to and fro, here is the clip.

Ant Room 26.1*C Heat Mat (15 watt): Off Outside weather: Sunny and vary warm.
Today I gave my ants a blob of ant jelly, which makes a total so far in my Dermy-style OFC: 83 PIC
Still loads of activity in and outside the nest with a respectable amount of cocoons awaiting eclosure.
Didn't see the queen today. Perhaps she's out on a royal visit somewhere. >.<
