Your probably right in splitting them both up.I shall look forward to seeing how these 2 colonies develops.

Yes you must split Lasius niger queens up. They will initially cooperate in getting a colony started but once it gets going the queens will fight to the death. The last thing you want is for the surviving queen to be so badly hurt that she eventually succumbs to her injuries and dies.
